First floating wind turbine in Japan became functionalAfter the nuclear disaster in 2011 in Fukushima, the biggest in the last 25 years, the Japanese authorities decided for the renewable energy to become a priority in the national energy system, and protecting the environment to get a special attention as well.

For this, an offshore wind project was born recently in the same province of Fukushima, and the first floating wind turbine of the system was commissioned few days ago, in the presence of the province’s governor and a Industry Ministry representative.

The turbine has 2 MW of capacity, 106 meters in hight, 80 meters in diameter, and in the process other turbines will be elevated, so the final generating power of the wind farm will reach 12 MW. The construction work is set to last until 2016.
