Energy-independent homes for two owners in GermanyTwo house owners in Freiberg, Germany, decided to get rod of the energy suppliers dependency and the rising electricity costs and started an energy efficiency projects for their homes.

Helma Eigenbau AG helped them by installing a solar-thermal system, with a 46 square meters collecting surface and a photovoltaic system, with a 8.4 kW capacity and a 58 square meters collecting surface.

When the sun is not enough for heating the water and rooms, a wood gasification furnace goes into operation. The electricity excess generated by the PV system is taken into a storage system and may be used for charging electric vehicles.
