4 GW photovoltaic plant in India

4 GW photovoltaic plant in IndiaDuring the Intersolar India International Fair, taking place these days in Mumbay, a New and Renewable Energy Ministry representative revealed authorities’ intention to build another 18 GW of solar capacity in the next 10 years, here included a 4 GW photovoltaic farm to be built very soon.

The first stage of the project, of 1 GW of capacity, is about to be developed and is expected to be done by March 2014. Obviously, for this kind of ultra-mega renewable park a huge field was needed, so for this project deserts of Rajasthan, Gujarat and cold-desert of Ladakh were selected.

Most debates in Intersolar India were around operations and maintenance issues, design optimization and plant quality, meaning that the industry has reached a higher level of maturity compared to the last few years.

The head of SMA India, also present at the event, said he is pleased that quality work became more and more important for the developers and that these issues started to be subject of most discussions during dedicated renewable energy events.
