Vulcan Energie Ressourcen GmbH a fost desemnată câștigătoarea prestigiosului premiu european de inovație geotermală Ruggero Bertani pentru anul 2024. Premiul recunoaște proiectul inovator al Vulcan Energie Ressourcen GmbH, Fabrica de Optimizare a Extracției de Litiu (LEOP) din geotermal, concepută pentru a revoluționa producția de litiu durabil în Europa.
LEOP reprezintă o inițiativă pionieră, marcând prima unitate de producție care extrage litiu din geotermal într-un mod ecologic. Această plantă inovatoare, inaugurată în 2023, situată în Europa, atinge un nivel de tehnologie TRL 7/8, permitând producția la scară largă a clorurii de litiu (LiCl) din salma geotermală, cu o producție anuală impresionantă de 40 de tone de hidroxid de litiu verde. LEOP are capacitatea de a alimenta crearea a aproximativ 850 de baterii de mașini electrice anual.

Miklos Antics, Președintele Consiliului European de Energie Geotermală (EGEC) și membru al juriului, a declarat: „Premiul din acest an sărbătorește a zecea ediție începând din 2004 și evidențiază realizările tehnologice și spiritul de colaborare și ingeniozitate care conduc progresul în eforturile geotermale din întreaga Europă”.
